The International 10 Prize Pool Has Surpassed The $31 Million Threshold
The International is one of the most prestigious tournaments series ever, no doubt. DotA 2’s annual competitive series is well-known for its gigantic prize pools that continue growing with every passing year, and last year’s prize pool was $34,330,068. This prize pool is achieved by adding 25% of sales, meaning that over $100M has been already spent by the players so far.
This year, the industry is following the prize tracker closely as numbers come quite close to last year’s results. Prize pool started at $1,600,000 initially, which means that fans have already contributed around $30M so far. Every year had been yielding a larger amount of contribution than the previous one throughout the history of series, and this year is not expected to be an exception.
10th anniversary of this classic tournament was originally planned to start on 18th of August and end on 23rd. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 pandemic, Valve announced in April 2020 that they will have to delay the event for the best outcome on all conditions. As for the expected date, they have mentioned 2021 as the earliest possibility. If the growth pace of prize pool is kept for prize pool, we may be able to watch one of the most historical events of esports next year.
