Rocket League Sees 1 Million Online Players After Free-To-Play Era Begins
Rocket League by Psyonix has been a very stable esports title with its solid fanbase over the years. Despite its simple concept of competition, the company managed to execute this simple idea so excellently that game never lost its momentum.
Recently Psyonix announced that game will finally become free-to-play after years. This expectedly created a hype and influx of new players, but expectations were probably not this high for even Psyonix. In just around 24 hours after game became officially free, concurrent players number crashed through the 1 million threshold despite it was not even the peak hours. A few server issues happened of course, but with this much of a huge success, that must be a good problem to have.
Now a new question arises with this new chapter in the story of Psyonix. As all top-tier competitive figures express from time to time, getting to top is one thing but staying there takes a lot more effort. We are yet to see how long this hype will last, and how it will eventually affect the title’s future. With RLCS X going on, the scene may also see new talents rising for Rocket League. From now on, we can only be excited to see the news from its scene.
