IEM Global Challenge Is Coming Back To LAN With CS:GO
While COVID-19 has torn apart the LAN event scene in 2020, finally we are hearing some news that bring hope back. Many tournaments’ offline parts have been cancelled during the pandemic over the very reasonable health concerns. It is known that online conditions affect tournament results due to a high variance for every location, thus the organizers were always trying to find an opportunity to bring the LAN phase back.
ESL announced that they are trying to have Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge 2020 to take place in Cologne, Germany between 15th and 20th of December. If things go well, eight teams from three continents will be fighting for the biggest slice from $500,000 prize pool. For this to happen, ESL is working closely with government and ensure all security and health protocols are properly executed.
This is not the only event that sets its sight to LAN event though. Riot Games’ World Championship 2020 is also trying quite hard to stay as a LAN event. While fans will still not be able to attend, it is great to see that LAN events can happen safely in teams scale and near future may have brighter news ahead.
