In a flash news from ESL side, they unfortunately confirmed that the ESL One Rio 2020 Major CS:GO tournament is cancelled due to concerns over COVID-19 pandemic. While ESL very clearly promised that they will be returning to Rio with another major once the conditions go back to normal, this is sadly not an option now. ESL also stated that tickets will stay valid, and refunds are possible.

Alongside the ESL One Rio 2020 cancellation, the organizers also expressed that IEM New York 2020 and IEM Beijing-Haidian 2020 will be played online. Both tournaments will be hosting 32 teams and boasting a prize pool of $250,000 each.

As the last announcement on their list, they mentioned that IEM Global Challenge 2020 in December is still having a possibility for a LAN event. This tournament will see top 8 teams and a whopping $500,000 prize pool. Let’s not keep our hopes too high though, as COVID-19 is not looking like it will leave our planet for a good while and ESL is also considering a possible switch if things seem bleak.
