In recent days, the mobile game industry was stirred with breaking news of Fortnite being removed from iOS App Store and Google Play Store respectively. Epic Games now announced that they are suing Apple over the decision.

The conflict arised due to the pricing regulations of both stores. For all purchases, in-app or not, both Apple and Google were receiving a 30% share. This indeed means a big amount for them and understandably they want to keep that juicy slice of cake to themselves. Epic Games introduced a direct payment option that cuts off the prices around 20% as this specific move bypasses the shares of Google and Apple in the process. Therefore, Apple and Google decided to remove the purchase options of Fortnite from their stores.

Still, if you have the game on your device, you are able to play it as the product was not completely removed. The matter only affects the purchases, and Samsung users also have the Samsung Galaxy Store as an extra option.

This seems to have serious consequences for the industry as it will play out as an exemplary scenario that will shape the future of similar situations, eventually determining the course of huge changes for pricing and distribution strategies especially in mobile games. Let’s hope that it will not be resulting in a serious disadvantage for the players at least.
